McHenry to host citizens police academy

McHENRY – The McHenry Police Department is accepting applications for its citizens police academy.

The class will meet 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 8 through Dec. 3, and cover criminal investigations, crime scene processing, patrol activities, reviews of firearms and other weapons, defense tactics and public relations.

Participants will also participate in a patrol ride-along.

Applications are available at the McHenry Police Department's records department 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

They are due by Sunday, Sept. 29. Background checks will be conducted on all applicants, and those picked for the class will be notified by Monday, Oct. 7.

The class needs a minimum of 10 participants to take place, and participants are capped at 20.
