Raue Center develops Artful Women Series

CRYSTAL LAKE – New this season at Raue Center For The Arts is the Artful Women Series, designed to bring women’s issues to the stage in a format that will inspire, enrich, educate and entertain the community.

The Artful Women Committee began its series in July with “Band of Sisters,” a documentary about Catholic nuns and their work for social justice after Vatican II.

The first Raue Salon of the new season will honor the committee and celebrate the Artful Women initiative from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at 26 North, Raue Center’s upstairs bar.

On Sept. 19, the group will host an Artful Women luncheon on stage at the Raue Center.

The afternoon features author and Woodstock resident Erane Scully as the keynote speaker. Scully will discuss her book, “The Carrion Vine,” a nonfiction account of her and her mother’s two years in a Russian labor camp during World War II.

Tickets cost $33. To make a reservation, call Rebecca Heisler at 815-356-9010, ext 22.

For information about the committee and its events, visit rauecenter.org or stop at the box office at 26 N. Williams St. in downtown Crystal Lake.
