CRYSTAL LAKE – A featured quilt this year is “Injun Summer,” a tapestry by legendary quilter Suzanne Riggio.

In 1985, William Powers, tapestry owner and internationally successful opera singer, commissioned Riggio to reproduce this famous cartoon that had been reprinted by the Chicago Tribune each autumn from 1912 to 1992.

The original work was penned in 1907 by Pulitzer Prize winner John T. McCutcheon.  Riggio has reproduced this famous cartoon in fabric, thread and rawhide.

The project took two years, and the resulting spectacular, quilted tapestry will be on display with many other beautiful quilts at Countryside on Saturday and Sunday.

Buy a chance to win one of the many raffle quilts or come and enjoy the greenhouses filled with these works of art, accented with colorful mums.

Countryside Flower Shop, Nursery and Garden Center is on Route 176, a half-mile west of Route 31 in Crystal Lake.
