Published: Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 11:39 p.m. CST

RICHMOND – An educational session on emergency preparedness for seniors is planned this month.

The session will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Richmond Village Hall, 5600 Hunter Drive.

The Richmond Emergency Services Disaster Agency and the village of Richmond are hosting the session as part of National Preparedness Month, which was established after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to increase preparedness through public events and online information.

The initiative encourages residents, businesses and organizations to prepare so they can be self-reliant for three days without utilities, electricity or water without access to a store, local services or even emergency responders.

For information about the event, call the village of Richmond at 815-678-4040 or the Richmond Emergency Services Disaster Agency at 815-678-4163.
