Sanity in Syria

Published: Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 5:30 a.m. CST

To the Editor:

I hope sanity prevails and we do not get involved with military action in Syria.

I have heard that America’s credibility is at stake. Just what is our credibility? Paying $1 billion to take out Syria’s military capabilities is hardly a priority for us now. Our overstuffed military should be used if and when we are attacked.

We should concentrate on the slow progress we are making in creating good health care, education and infrastructure. Perhaps we have been so saturated with Florida’s concept of stand your ground that we can’t see the trees for the forest.

Our Republican Party seems to have had a dose of this concept. The NRA has been suffering from the same paranoia. Now the government has been afflicted. Think of what would happen if each of these entities would be inoculated with a little heart and more tolerant of others’ opinions with less rigidity.

This world would be a better place.
