Hurricanes boys soccer grabs 1st conference win

The Marian Central boys soccer team earned it first Suburban Christian Conference victory of the season, it just took longer than expected.

The Hurricanes (3-3, 1-0) defeated Montini, 4-3, on penalty kicks after two scoreless overtimes Tuesday in Lombard.

Hunter Labas, Bryan Hart, Liam Gries and Jake Higgins each scored on a penalty kick for the Hurricanes.

Hart added two goals on penalty kicks in the second half, with Connor Hull scoring in the first half.

CL South 5, Hampshire 1: At Crystal Lake, Orlando Tapia and Matt Tobolt each had two goals and an assist for the Gators (2-3-2) in their five-goal first half of their Fox Valley Conference crossover win.

Tyler Koppie scored the lone goal for the Whip-Purs (2-3).

Cary-Grove 4, Johnsburg 0: At Cary, Dale Opasser scored two goals in the second half for the Trojans (4-2), with Kevin Wilde adding a goal and two assists in their FVC crossover win over the Skyhawks (1-2-1).

Burlington Central 2, Harvard 1: At Harvard, Mauricio Mercado scored on an Angel Sanchez assist for the Hornets (5-4, 1-1) in their Big Northern Conference East loss.

Grayslake Central 2, McHenry 1: At McHenry, Evan Hying scored on a Nick Almazan assist for the Warriors (5-2) in their FVC crossover loss.

Jacobs 1, Grayslake North 0: At Algonquin, Spencer Dixon had six saves in goal for the Golden Eagles (2-2-1) to earn the shutout, with Konrad Wasilewski scoring on an Austin Ryan assist for Jacobs’ goal in their FVC crossover win.


Marengo 2, North Boone 0: At Poplar Grove, Trinity Martin and Peyton Velasquez each had five kills for the Indians (3-1, 1-0 BNC East), with Charity Steffen adding 10 digs in their 27-25, 25-17 conference win.

Westminster Christian 2, Alden-Hebron 0: At Hebron, Brooklyn Hilton had eight kills and five blocks for the Giants (0-2, 0-2 Northeastern Athletic Conference), with Tally Lalor adding five aces in their 25-18, 25-18 conference loss.

Huntley 2, Jacobs 0: At Huntley, Kelsey DeWulf dished out 21 assists for the Red Raiders (7-2, 2-0), with Erin Erb adding eight kills in their 25-13, 25-16 FVC Valley Division win.

Bridget Wallenberger had four kills to lead the Golden Eagles (5-4, 0-2), with Mackie Traub adding nine assists.

Marian Central 2, Harvest Christian 1: At Elgin, Alex Kaufmann had 25 assists with seven digs and Frankie Taylor added eight kills and seven digs for the Hurricanes in their 16-25, 25-16, 25-16 nonconference win.

CL Central 2, Woodstock 0: At Crystal Lake, Mackenzie Allen had 11 digs and seven aces for the Tigers (7-2, 2-0), with Natalie Ricca adding 12 assists and eight digs in their FVC Fox win over the Blue Streaks (0-4, 0-2).

CL South 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Crystal Lake, Lauren Lococo had five kills and five digs for the Chargers (3-5, 0-1) in a FVC Valley loss to the Gators (8-1, 2-0).

Richmond-Burton 2, Rockford Christian 0: At Richmond, Ali Frantti totaled 18 kills, seven digs, six aces and two blocks for the Rockets (3-6, 1-0) in their 25-14, 25-9 BNC East win.


CL Central 164, McHenry 165: At Turnberry in Lakewood, Paul Schlimm, Jordan Schoenfeld, Michael Tobin and Josh Dingle all shot 41s for the Tigers in their FVC win.

Cameron Justen shot a 2-over-par 38 to earn medalist honors for the Warriors.

Hampshire 174, CL South 189: At the Oak Club of Genoa, Geoff Beck took medalist honors for the Whip-Purs with a 3-over 39 in their FVC win. Brandon Dahl led the Gators with a 44.

Marian Central 162, Belvidere North 185: At Crystal Woods in Woodstock, Noah Radwanski earned medalist honors for the Hurricanes with a 2-over 38, with Kyler Hardie adding a 40 in their nonconference win.

Marengo 166, Rockford Lutheran 184: At Marengo Ridge in Marengo, Ryan Wick shot a 40 to lead the Indians. Huner Simonini added a 41 in a BNC win.


CL Central co-op 164, Jacobs 223: At Turnberry in Lakewood, Bailey Bostler earned medalist honors for the Tigers with a 4-over 40, with Lexi Harkins and Emily Jean each adding a 41.

Sydney Goil led the Golden Eagles with a 51.

Richmond-Burton 193, Burlington Central 196: At the Sycamore Golf Club, Blake Betke shot a 42 to lead the Rockets in their BNC East win.

Rockford Lutheran 219, Marengo 258: At Marengo Ridge, Monica Millard shot a 52 to lead the Indians in a BNC East loss.


CL South 6, Hampshire 1: At Crystal Lake, Kelsey Laktash and Rachel Rasmussen won their No. 1 doubles match in straight 6-0 sets for the Gators in their FVC win.

Julie Schreiner picked up a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win at No. 2 singles for the Whip-Purs.

Huntley 7, Dundee-Crown 0: At Carpentersville, Venecia Alvarez and Katie Gallegos won their No. 2 doubles match, 6-0, 6-4, for the Red Raiders in their FVC win over the Chargers.

Roasry 3, Marian Central 2: At Woodstock, Abby Waters won No. 1 singles in straight 6-0 sets for the Hurricanes, with Ariel Majewski adding a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles in their Suburban Catholic Conference loss.

McHenry 6, Grayslake North 1: At McHenry, Lauren Goebel (No. 2 singles) and Emily Zalewski (No. 3 singles) each won their match for the Warriors, 6-1, 6-0, in their FVC win.

Sycamore 4, Marengo 3: At Marengo, Jackie Pula and Megan Hanelt won their No. 2 doubles match, 6-4, 5-7 (10-8), for the Indians in a nonconference loss.


Belvidere North 102, Woodstock co-op 66: At Woodstock, Alli DeWane won the 50-yard freestyle for the Thunder in 27.08 seconds, and teamed with Gianna McGuire, Lizzy Kruse and Katie Ferguson to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:51.83.
