City council to consider gun ordinances

CHICAGO — The Chicago City Council is scheduled to consider two gun ordinances: One to make it simpler and less expensive for residents to own a gun and the other to restrict where people can take the weapons.

Wednesday's agenda includes a gun ordinance that deletes a provision in the current law that requires gun owners to obtain — and pay for — a city permit. On Monday, the council's public safety committee recommended changes because Illinois' new law allowing concealed carry gives state police sole authority over the permitting process.

Also on the agenda is an ordinance recommended recently by the council's finance committee that requires bars and restaurants that serve alcohol to ban firearms.
