Illinois school bus driver charged with DUI

WHEATON – A northern Illinois elementary school bus driver has been charged with driving drunk while on duty.

Forty-two-year-old Jill Beebe of South Elgin was arrested Friday while working her route in West Chicago after a school employee reported that she thought she smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath.

The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said West Chicago police officers administered field sobriety tests.

Beebe was charged with one count of aggravated driving while under the influence. She could get up to three years in prison if found guilty.

A judge set bond at $100,000.

State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said the idea that a school bus driver might have gotten behind the wheel drunk “is unconscionable.”

Beebe does not have a listed telephone number and could not be reached for comment.
