Roundup: Marengo boys soccer beats North Boone

The Marengo boys soccer team won, 5-0, against host North Boone behind a big game from Alexis Noriega.

The senior scored three goals while assisting on another late in the second half. Jesse Ramirez and Miguel Cortez each added goals in the second half for the Indians while goalkeeper Dylan Marks made eight saves in the Big Northern Conference win.

Belvidere North 1, Hampshire 0: At Hampshire, goalkeeper Andy Pederson made seven saves for the Whip-Purs (2-5) in the loss.

Harvard 4, Richmond-Burton 1: At Harvard, after trailing 1-0 at half, the Hornets scored four second-half goals in a BNC win.

Pedro Guzman scored twice while Jerry Martinez added a goal and an assist and Alfredo Pichardo chipped in with a goal and an assist. The Hornets improved to 6-4-1 and 2-1-1 in the BNC.


Burlington Central Triangular: At Sycamore, Richmond-Burton finished third in the meet with a 173. Rock Falls (161) won while host Burlington Central (162) took second.

Jordan Hahn led the Rockets (7-5 overall, 5-4 BNC) with a 1-over-par 37 while teammates Bobby Meyers (44) Joey Pegura (45) and Ryan May (47) rounded out the scoring in the loss.

Jacobs 159, Crystal Lake South 172: At Crystal Lake Country Club, Gabe Askam earned medalist honors for Jacobs with a 37 while teammate Justin Lenzini carded a 38 on the par-35 course.

Brandon Dahl led the way for South with a 41 and teammate Grant Gassensmith was right behind him with a 43.

Marian Central 159, Woodstock 179: At Crystal Woods in Woodstock, Noah Radwanski earned medalist honors with a 2-over-par 38 for the Hurricanes (6-1). Ben Schnepf's 39 was good for second overall.

Alex Ferguson led the way for Woodstock with a 41.


South Elgin Invitational: At Elgin Country Club, Huntley placed third overall with a 186 in the 12-team invitational behind a strong performance from Gillian Young. Young placed third overall and led the Red Raiders with a 41. 

St. Charles North (168) won the invite while area teams Jacobs and Hampshire placed seventh as both teams turned in 220's. Dundee-Crown finished ninth with a 221.

Zoe Dowell (46), Leah Virzi (48) and Lexi Lowitzki (51) each contributed to Huntley's score.

McHenry 213, Prairie Ridge 221: At Prairie Isle in Prairie Grove, Brooke Johnson led the way for the Wolves with a round-best 45 in the loss.

McHenry was led by Hannah Ogden's 49 while teammates Kailey Lindholm (52), Madie Ogden (54) and Lok Yan Fick (58) scored in the win.

Belvidere 209, Marengo 263: At Marengo Ridge, Alyssa Pfaff carded a team-best 62 in the loss while Nina Reed (63), Brittany Mazur (69) and Paige Schulze (69) rounded out the scoring for the Indians.


Alden-Hebron 2, Kirkland 0: At Hebron, Hannah Behrens led the Giants with five aces while Brooklyn Hilton and Jacqueline Walters each added six blocks in the straight-set, 25-6, 25-18 win.


Marian Central 4, Belvidere North 1: At Woodstock, Abby Waters earned the lone singles win for the Hurricanes in a three-set victory.

The Hurricanes also won each of the three doubles matches including a straight-set win from the No. 2 pair of Rachel Melchionna and Kaitlin Pinter.
