Roundup: Harvard boys soccer team blanks North Boone

Harvard's boys soccer team used five first-half goals Wednesday in a 6-0 Big Northern Conference East Division victory over North Boone in Harvard.

The Hornets (7-4-1 overall, 3-1-1 BNC East ) were led by Benito Mendoza, who scored two goals.

Fernando Mercado, Pedro Guzman, Jake Hurdle and Rolando Marquez also scored for Harvard. Angel Sanchez added two assists, and Jose Ortiz made three saves for the Hornets. Hurdle played the second half in goal and made four saves.

Genoa-Kingston 3, Richmond-Burton 0: At Genoa, the Rockets lost in BNC East play.


St. Francis 2, Marian Central 0: At Wheaton, the Hurricanes (3-3, 1-2) lost, 25-13, 25-15, in Suburban Christian Conference play. Marian was led by Frankie Taylor, who had six kills and nine digs. Bethany Bucci added nine digs for the Hurricanes.

Burlington 2, Harvard 0: At Burlington, the Hornets lost to Burlington, 25-7, 25-19, in their BNC East match. Harvard was led by Maty Brincks with four kills and Sophie Stricker with 22 assists. Ashlyn Stricker added 19 digs for the Hornets.

Wheaton Warrenville South Classic: At Wheaton, Prairie Ridge competed in the opening round of the tournament, which decided groups for Saturday’s final matches. The Wolves lost their first game to Marist, 25-17, 25-16, and then lost to Wheaton Warrenville South, 25-17, 25-20. The two losses sent Prairie Ridge to the Bronze Flight, where they will play Neuqua Valley in the first round.


Johnsburg 173, Rockford Lutheran 180, Harvard 191: At Oak Grove in Harvard, Grant Fisher and Zach Matejka each shot a 40 to help the Skyhawks to victory. Jake Doherty added a 45 for Johnsburg.

The Hornets were led by Jeremy Coffman (40) and Tyler Garafol (42).


Marian Central 3, Wheaton Academy 2, At Woodstock, Abby Waters won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, for the Hurricanes, who held on to beat Wheaton Academy in SCC play. Marian's Ariel Majewski won at No. 2 singles.  

Megan Mink and Ashley Graf won at No. 3 doubles for the Hurricanes.
