WOODSTOCK – A Woodstock man accused of raping women he met on Craigslist pleaded not guilty to new accusations from a sixth alleged victim.
Charles R. Oliver, 45, was arraigned Friday before McHenry County Judge Gordon Graham on the latest sexual assault charges.
Prosecutors say Oliver met the women – many of whom were escorts or prostitutes – on Craigslist or other websites.
He is accused of beating the women and forcing them to have sex. After the encounters, he is accused of threatening to shame, kill or rape the women.
Oliver’s defense attorney, Mark Facchini, said there is no evidence the latest woman to come forward was ever at Oliver’s house at 407 Greenwood Ave., where the crimes are alleged to have occurred.
Oliver is awaiting trial before Judge Sharon Prather on multiple other charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault, kidnapping and unlawful restraint. His first trial in those cases is set for December.
Oliver also asked for a new judge on the latest case. He missed the deadline to ask for a substitution of judge on the other pending cases.
Facchini declined to comment on the switch.
Many of the alleged sex acts were recorded on video, and prosecutors say they do not appear consensual, though Facchini has said the women did not have injuries consistent with sexual assault.
Oliver’s next court date is Sept. 24.
If found guilty, he could face between 95 and 120 years in prison. He remains in McHenry County Jail in lieu of $3.5 million bond.
