Fire damages Crystal Lake garage

CRYSTAL LAKE - A garage caught fire Friday morning in Crystal Lake, according to the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.

Crews were called to a home in the 5800 block of Sloan Lane at around 7 a.m. for a report of a structure fire, according to a news release. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from an attached garage of a home in that area.

The residents had evacuated the home prior to the arrival of fire crews, and the fire was under control in about 15 minutes, the release states.

Damaged is estimated at around $50,000.

The Red Cross assisted the residents who were displaced due to the damage to the garage and home from fire, smoke and water.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Crews from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Barrinton, Cary, Huntley, Lakewood, McHenry Township, Nunda-Rural, Wauconda and Woodstock assisted with the incident.

Deputies from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office assisted with traffic control.
