No to war

To the Editor:

If we want to stop barbarism, before we start another war in Syria, we should ban all torture ourselves. Not until then should we start another war. We secretly waterboarded other helpless victims. We have tortured people in Central America, such as in Nicaragua and El Salvador, and even backed the torturous Chilean dictator Gen. Pinochet. The federal government should first check what it does wrong, and not go to war with Syria, despite what Syria’s government has done.

Also, we have been the world’s policemen perpetually. Let oil-rich Middle Easteners such as Saudi Arabia be the policemen instead. Weapons makers profit most, and that has been our course. Corporations such as Haliburton prefer a guaranteed customer (the U.S.) and huge profits.

To start a war, sympathy must be found for it. To start war in Iraq, former President George Bush got intelligence to find chemical weapons there. After the war, no WMDs were found.

Conservatives, before this at least, said that we have a deficit, thus war is unaffordable. Using children as war victims as motivation is a super ploy to start war. Children here are going hungry and homeless, too; single payer for all health care, and improved infrastructure, is needed here.
