RICHMOND – A community garage sale is in the works to raise money for the Richmond Police Department's K-9 unit.

The village is requesting the donation of gently used household items for the sale.

They can be dropped off at Richmond Village Hall, 5600 Hunter Drive, through Oct. 8. The Village Hall is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The garage sale, which is being planned by the village's citizens police academy association, will take place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 10 through Oct. 12 at Memorial Hall Civic Theatre, 10308 Main St.

Much of the costs associated with the department's two canines – Brutus and Bear – is covered by Richmond Police Chief Ciro Cetrangolo, who is also the department's canine officer.
