Health department schedules October flu clinics

WOODSTOCK – The McHenry County Department of Health joins the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in encouraging an annual flu shot for everyone 6 months and older as the best protection against influenza.

Appointments for mercury-free shots for adults and children 9 years and older can be made at 815-334-4510 (for all clinics) or online at www.mcdh.info.

The cost is $30; Medicaid and Medicare Part B are accepted.

Flu clinics have been scheduled in October at the following locations:

• 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at health department's Crystal Lake office, 100 N. Virginia St.

• 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Oct. 7 at the health department's Woodstock office, 2200 N. Seminary Ave.

• 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Woodstock office.

• 9:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 9 at the Crystal Lake office.

Because the flu season is long and unpredictable, the CDC recommends getting a flu shot before flu season begins because it takes two weeks for antibodies to develop to provide protection.

Simple ways to protect yourself also include covering coughs, washing hands and staying home when sick.
