To the Editor:
I want to commend your newspaper and Dan McCaleb for taking such a clear stand against Illinois adopting a progressive income tax, and for recognizing that state Rep. Jack Franks is truly an independent voice within his party for doing the same.
Illinois already takes an excessive amount from residents, and the prospect of any citizen, no matter their income level, being taken for one cent more when there is so much waste and corruption is an insult typical of politicians in this state. I do not understand why any resident would support sending more money to a government that for more than three years has been unable to pass meaningful public-sector pension reform legislation.
Franks is on the right side of this issue, and we need to stand up and show our support for him.
