Respectful workers

To the Editor:

This is an open letter to the construction workers at Route 31 and Cary-Algonquin Road.

As we all know, there are two seasons in Illinois: construction and winter. During the construction season, we tend to think bad things about the construction workers. I would like to personally thank them.

Five weeks ago during my daughter’s funeral, they were asked to please stop during the service. Not only did they stop so as not to disturb us, they removed their hats out of respect for someone they never met.

I am sorry it has taken me this long to thank you. I only recently found out this happened.

So whenever you think of cursing out a construction worker for holding up traffic, please think again, they are doing their job and not intentionally trying to hold you up.

Or they might just be giving a grieving family the silence they need to say a last goodbye.
