Man charged with attempted murder of Crystal Lake woman

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS – An Arlington Heights man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with a domestic dispute involving his Crystal Lake girlfriend.

Donald E. Stellato, 39, also was charged with unlawful restraint and aggravated domestic battery from the Sept. 22 incident involving his 44-year-old girlfriend. Police did not identify the woman but said she was from Crystal Lake.

Arlington Heights Police Sgt. Rick Kappelman said Stellato repeatedly punched the woman and tried to strangle her. She allegedly had bruises over much of her body, head, face and torso, and her nose was swollen.

The woman was pulled over after 2 a.m. Sept. 22 in Barrington for a traffic stop, when she told officers there that she had been beaten by Stellato. She told police their relationship was volatile and abusive, and she had called police so many times that she lost count, according to incident reports.

The woman was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening and later was released from the hospital.

Stellato's next court date is Oct. 9 at the Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
