Illinois woman charged in grandmother’s death
DES PLAINES – A northern Illinois woman accused of shoving her grandmother during an argument has been charged with first-degree murder after the victim died of her injuries.
Thirty-three-year-old Lynn Bingaman of Des Plaines was initially charged with aggravated domestic battery.
But prosecutors accused her of the more serious offense Friday after the Cook County medical examiner determined that the woman’s grandmother died of blunt trauma and ruled her death a homicide.
Local media reported that after being pushed, 83-year-old Betty Knaack struck her head on a chair.
Knaack was conscious and responsive when paramedics arrived but later died.
Des Plaines Detective Cmdr. Randy Akin said the argument appeared to be over several matters, including Bingaman’s wanting to use a computer.
Bingaman was denied bond and remains in custody.
