Boys Roundup: Tigers win invite

The Crystal Lake Central boys cross country team had four of the top-six individual finishers in the Pat Harland Invitational on Saturday in Antioch. The scores helped propel the Tigers to win the meet with 30 points, 39 better than second-place Warren.

Ryan Pitner was the top finisher with a time of 16:18.91. Pitner’s CLC teammates Nick Amato and Zach Gemmel finished in third and fourth, respectively. PJ McKay (16:45.52) finished sixth for the Tigers.

Jacobs finished third with a score of 97 and had two individuals finish in the top 10. Matt Johnson (16:25.66) was second) and Corey Albrecht added a 10th-place finish for the Golden Eagles.

Richmond-Burton was led by James Kaht (17:35.44), who finished 29th. The Rockets took seventh place with 218 points.

Johnsburg was eighth and was led by Matt Stelmasek’s 28th-place finish. Jorge Pichardo of Harvard finished 21st, and helped his team to a 12th-place finish.

Marian Central finished in 14th with a score 368.

Niles West Invitational: At Skokie, the Blue Streaks finished 10th in the Pat Savage Invitational with a score of 351. Woodstock was led by a 19th-place finish by Luke Beattie, who finished with a time of 15:41.66. Liam Dewane and Zach Bellavia also scored top-50 finishes for the Blue Streaks.

Dundee-Crown finished 17th with a score of 496. The Chargers were led by Todd Noreen (16:57.58), who was 76th.

Woodstock North finished 23rd with a score of 683. The Thunder were led by Cullen Anderson’s 56th-place finish in 16:41.22.

Lisle Mane Event Invitational: Crystal Lake South’s David Lenzini was seventh and Jon Prus was ninth to lead the Gators to second place with 58 points. Lincoln-Way East won with 56.

Jacob Oury led Hampshire with a 12th-place finish. The Whip-Purs were ninth.

St. Charles North Invitational: Freshman Filip Pajak was 24th and Mitch Kazin was 28th as Prairie Ridge finished ninth out of 23 teams at Leroy Oakes Forest Preserve.

Peoria Central Invitational: At Detweiller Park in Peoria, McHenry’s Jesse Resier won the event in 14:34 as the Warriors took 13th place.

Huntley took seventh behind a seventh-place finish by Keagan Smith (15:07) and a 15th-place finish by Seth Conroy (15:17).

Cary-Grove took 22nd with an 88th-place finish by John Cody (16:09).


Crystal Lake Central 4, Belvidere 0: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers scored three second-half goals to put away the nonconference win. Isaac Herrera led the way with two goals. Aaron Castaneda and Derek Olson added goals in the win.

Huntley 5, Elgin 1: At Huntley, the Red Raiders (16-1-1) scored three goals in an eight-minute span to pull away and win in nonconference play. Niko Mihalopoulos scored two goals in four minutes in the first half. Jason Zobott and Jaime Quintana added goals for Huntley.

Prospect 2, Crystal Lake South 0: At Crystal Lake, the Gators (7-9-3) were shut out in nonconference play.

Marian Central 3, St. Francis 0: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes (10-4, 7-0 SCC) won to move one win away from claiming the Suburban Christian Conference Championship. Connor Hull and Bryan Hart each scored for Marian Central, tying them for the team lead in goals at eight. Riley Blaz scored the third goal for the Hurricanes.

Hampshire Invite: At Hampshire, the Whips (5-12-1) lost in the championship match to Burlington Central, 4-1, to finish the invite in second place. Tyler Koppier scored the lone goal for Hampshire and Andy Pederson made 20 saves in the loss.

The Thunder (7-10-1) claimed fifth place in the tourney with an 11-1 win against Christian Liberty. Aaron Jones had two goals and an assist in the win. Victor Ortiz and Edder Tapia each added two goals of their own for Woodstock North.

Rockford Jefferson 3, Woodstock 1: At Woodstock, the Blue Streaks (5-10-1) lost in nonconference play. Woodstock tied the score at one point in the second half at 1, but gave up two more goals to eventually lose. Freshman Andy Dominguez scored the lone goal for the Blue Streaks.


Antioch Quad: At Antioch Golf Club, the Skyhawks finished second in the quad with a score of 341. Antioch won the quad with a 318. Zach Matejka shot an 81 to lead Johnsburg. Grant Fisher was second on the team with an 85, and Jake Schyvinck added a 86 for the Skyhawks.
