WOODSTOCK – A sex offender evaluation was ordered Tuesday for the former Crystal Lake youth baseball coach accused with possessing child pornography.

Marcus J. Sabo, 40, of Crystal Lake was charged in August with 60 counts of child pornography.

Sabo coached 15-year-old boys in the Crystal Lake Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was barred from the league after his arrest.

According to the criminal indictment, the pornography Sabo possessed depicted underage males either engaged in sex acts or in lewd positions. None of the images were of children who participated in the league, prosecutors said.

Representatives from the youth baseball league said Sabo previously cleared a background check in order to become a volunteer with the organization.

The sex offender evaluation came at the request of his attorney, Public Defender Angelo Mourelatos, who had no comment after Sabo’s court date.

Sabo remains in McHenry County Jail on $125,000 bond. His next court date is Nov. 12.
