Great library

To the Editor:

In Crystal Lake, what is old and wise, plus full of energy and a spirit of innovation? It is a place with dedicated people serving us. It’s a place in which to learn, to enjoy, to discover new ideas and new methods. Where is this public gathering place for us residents? It is our 100-year-old library.

Within its old walls we experience state-of-the art technology in a computer section where staff help keep us up-to-date with understanding the latest software. These professionals educate us to further learn new skills to cope with the worldwide explosion of new information.

I think of my library as a community center that attracts every age group. Look at the children’s section, where moms and dads bring their preschoolers for innovative programs that foster a love of learning. Our librarians always are creating something new that will intrigue school-age children and challenge teenagers.

In spite of the crowded conditions, there still is one room left for groups to gather to hear erudite speakers discuss with the group issues of importance. This library is very contemporary with its large collection of books on CDs. Commuters, insomniacs and the vision-impaired just love these CDs. The latter also appreciate the selection of large-print books.

It is no wonder that our library was judged to be one of the 10 best libraries in the U.S.
