Chicago's Buckingham Fountain closing for season

Published: Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 9:16 a.m. CST

CHICAGO (AP) — Time is running out to see Chicago's famous lakefront fountain in all its glory.

Sunday is the last full day that Buckingham Fountain will feature a display. The Chicago Park District says the final water and light show of the season will occur around 10:30 p.m.

The fountain is a popular tourist destination and one of the most identifiable landmarks in the city. Every hour on the hour it shoots water 150 feet into the air. Beginning at dusk, the display is accompanied by a 20-minute light and music show.

Dedicated in 1927, the fountain was a gift to the people of Chicago from Miss Kate Buckingham, as a memorial to her brother.
