Mix-up puts strategic planning process on hold

McHENRY – The search to find a firm to develop a strategic facilities plan for the McHenry Township Fire Protection District is on hold.

About a month ago, the district issued a request for qualifications from firms that could put together a comprehensive, districtwide strategic facilities plan, but proposals were returned unopened after a mix-up on the dates, Fire Chief Tony Huemann said.

The due date on the packet that firms picked up was different from the date posted elsewhere, he said.

If the Board of Trustees decides to reissue a request for qualifications, a committee of two trustees will review the request for qualifications paperwork and the proposals that come in.

It's "still an exciting thing and a good thing," Huemann said.

The consulting firm – if the district’s board decides to reissue its request – would assess the district’s space needs and put together a game plan aimed at preventing large disparities between project estimates and what bids actually come in at.

The board had put the expansion of its main station on hold after bids came in $2 million over the estimates.
