Sycamore police subdue, arrest Algonquin man

SYCAMORE – Police used a stun gun Wednesday to subdue an Algonquin man who is accused of battering a police officer.

Sycamore police arrested Robert L. Steger, 57, about 5:30 p.m. after he became combative with an officer who was investigating a report of a possible order of protection violation, said Sycamore police Lt. Darrell Johnson. The incident occurred near D&D Jewelers, in the 300 block of West State Street.

“We tried to intervene and tried to solve the problem amicably, and the man involved was not cooperative and eventually we had to arrest him,” Sycamore police Chief Don Thomas said.

Steger was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated battery in public, trespassing, disorderly conduct, obstructing an officer and resisting a police officer.

He was taken to the DeKalb County Jail and was released after posting $1,500 bail Thursday.
