WOODSTOCK – A routine traffic stop ended in felony drug charges for a Wonder Lake man who police said possessed baggies of heroin.

William L. Ilkka, 32, of 7502 Birch Drive, remains in custody at the McHenry County Jail in lieu of $80,000 bond.

McHenry County deputies at 10 p.m. Tuesday were following Ilkka, who was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck. He failed to stop at a stoplight, police said.

Ilkka, who also was driving on a suspended license, failed several sobriety tests, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Deputies searched his vehicle and found drug paraphernalia, marijuana, hypodermic syringes and 11 baggies containing heroin, the news release said. The drugs had a combined weight of 3.6 grams.

Ilkka was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, a Class 1 felony; unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony; unlawful possession of a hypodermic syringe, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of drugs, driving on a suspended license and possession of marijuana, all misdemeanor offenses. He also was cited for disobeying a stop sign and improper lane use.

His next court date is Friday.
