Ottawa woman gets 24 years in 2011 beating death

OTTAWA, Ill. (AP) — A 32-year-old Ottawa woman has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for role in a 2011 beating death.

The (LaSalle) News-Tribune reported Saturday (http://tinyurl.com/lf4zbal ) that Jamie Lomeli's sentence was near the minimum of what she could have received.

She was convicted of felony murder last month for luring Darrio Hunter to her home in 2011 by repeatedly texting him.

Prosecutors say Hunter thought he was being summoned to sell cocaine, but instead was beaten and stabbed to death by Lomeli's brother and a second man.

Lomeli apologized for her role while pleading for leniency.

Prosecutors say Lomeli lured Hunter to her home so Luis Lomeli and Jason Ward could rob and beat him. Luis Lomeli previously was sentenced to 45 years in the case, and Ward to 30 years.
