Two men airlifted from Saturday crash

GENOA – Both drivers remained hospitalized Sunday after a crash that shut down Route 23 at Melms Road for about 4 ∏ hours Saturday morning.

Robert F. Pearson, 40, of Hampshire was driving a pickup truck west on Melms Road about 7 a.m. Saturday when he collided with a semitrailer, according to a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office news release. The semitrailer, driven by Jesus T. Ramirez, 43, of Woodstock was hauling sand south on Route 23.

Pearson was airlifted to OSF St. Anthony’s Medical Center in Rockford, where he remained in serious condition. Ramirez was airlifted to Rockford Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition Sunday.

The crash remained under investigation. DeKalb County Sheriff’s police, Genoa and McHenry County Sheriff’s police and Genoa-Kingston Fire and Rescue responded to the crash.
