McHenry man charged with sex crime

McHENRY – A 19-year-old McHenry man was arrested for allegedly having sexual contact with a 12-year-old girl of whom he also had nude photos, police said.

Ciriaco J. Diaz, of 4506 Garden Quarter, had sexual contact with the girl in November when they lived in the same residence, McHenry Police Deputy Chief John Birk said.

Diaz was charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and possession of child pornography, both Class X felonies.

He was arrested Friday after a monthlong investigation.

The victim was a “little” in the McHenry County Big Brothers Big Sisters program when in September someone from that agency learned of the alleged abuse and reported it to police.

“[As mandated reporters] they’re doing exactly what we hope they’d do,” Birk said.

Birk said the investigation took about a month to question all witnesses and conduct two interviews with Diaz before he was arrested. Police also executed a search warrant of Diaz’s cellphone and email, where they found that he asked for and possessed sexual photos of the girl, Birk said.

Diaz remains in custody in the McHenry County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
