LAKE IN THE HILLS – The police department will have aggressive traffic enforcement on Halloween to crack down on drunk drivers, the village said in a news release.

"The scariest part of Halloween is not the spooky costumes and scary pranks, it's drunk drivers," said Director of Police and Public Safety James Wales. "All too often, partygoers don't plan ahead and choose to drive after drinking, but a costume can't disguise drunk driving."

The police department advised people to who plan to participate in Halloween festivities to designate a sober driver, or take a taxi to get home. Also if people see a drunk driver on the road, they should call the police, or if they know someone who is about to drive drunk, they should take the person's keys away.

The law enforcement crackdown is being paid for with a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
