Spring Spa owner arrested for prostitution

The owner of a massage parlor in an unincorporated area of McHenry County near Crystal Lake has been arrested for prostitution, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Shufang Lu, 49, of Chicago, was arrested Monday and charged with prostitution and unlawful practice of massage therapy following an undercover operation at her business, Spring Spa, at 5610 S. Route 31.

After receiving complaints about suspicious activity at the business, deputies conducted an undercover operation, according to a news release. During the investigation, Lu agreed to perform sexual acts for money.

Investigators later learned that Lu did not have a license to practice massage therapy and that the Spring Spa did not have a valid business license, the news release states.

Lu has since posted bond and been released from the McHenry County Jail.

She is next scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 14.
