Kaifesh enters race for 8th Congressional District

CARPENTERSVILLE – A suburban Chicago reservist says he's running as a Republican to represent Illinois' 8th Congressional District.

Larry Kaifesh says in a statement that he wants to run for the seat now held by Democratic Rep. Tammy Duckworth to bring new leadership to Washington.

The Carpentersville resident says he was born in Elgin before moving to the Kane County community he now calls home. He earned an undergraduate degree from Indiana University and a master's in national security and strategic studies from the United States Naval War College.

The colonel in the Marine Corps reserve says he's been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan five different since 2001.

Duckworth was sworn in earlier this year after winning last year's race, defeating first-term Republican Rep. Joe Walsh.
