MCC offers holiday culinary classes

CRYSTAL LAKE – The McHenry County College’s Continuing Education Department is offering noncredit culinary classes in November and December to help residents prepare for the upcoming holidays.

• Holiday Sides: The class takes place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday in the MCC culinary lab, Room B179. The cost is $49.  Use course ID: NCU S20 011 to register.  

• Easy Holiday Entertaining: The class takes place from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 16 in the MCC culinary lab, Room B179. The cost is $53.  Use course ID: NCU S15 011 to register.

• Thanksgiving Crash Course: Learn how to brine a turkey, how to use the drippings to make gravy, and how to prepare delicious stuffing, plus make fresh cranberry sauce.  Chefs will demonstrate how to prepare a number of traditional Thanksgiving recipes. The class meets from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Lakeside Legacy Arts Park in Crystal Lake. The cost is $65 per person. Use course ID: NCU S41 011 to register. 

• New Year’s Eve in Paris: The class includes food and suggestions for wine pairings, as well as cooking tips and techniques. It takes place from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 7 in the MCC culinary lab, Room B179. The cost is $53.  Use course ID: NCU S05 012 to register.  

• Cookie Exchange: Learn how to prepare different cookie dough, plus how to bake and cool cookies properly. The class takes place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Lakeside Legacy Arts Park in Crystal Lake. The cost is $65 per person. Use course ID: NCU S22 012 to register.

• Downton Abbey Tea Time: Learn how to make two finger sandwiches as well as two sweets for a tea party. The sandwiches include smoked salmon and cucumber on a mini croissant, plus caramelized onion and blue cheese on toast points. The sweets include toasted almond and lavender shortcakes with autumn fruit compote and lemon curd tart with Italian meringue. The class takes place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 13 in the MCC culinary lab, Room B179. The cost is $49. Use course ID: NCU S24 012 to register.
