SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Pat Quinn says he'll announce his 2014 running mate "very soon."
Quinn, a Chicago Democrat, told reporters Wednesday that he first wants to get through the fall veto session, which is scheduled to end Thursday.
Candidates face a Dec. 2 deadline for filing candidate petitions. The team would need a minimum of 5,000 signatures.
Among various names circulating as Quinn's potential lieutenant governor include Chicago City Treasurer Stephanie Neely, who said she's talked to Quinn.
This is the first year that gubernatorial candidates will run alongside lieutenant governor candidates. The change is a result of problems in the 2010 primary election when the past troubles of a Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor became known.
Lieutenant Gov. Sheila Simon isn't seeking another term. She's running for state comptroller.
