To the Editor:
I want to thank state Rep. Jack Franks for his vote to approve gay marriage in the state of Illinois! As a college student, I have many gay and lesbian friends who deserve the right to marry just as much as I do. To imagine these people whom I care about denied the right to express their love in the same way I will be able to do as a heterosexual individual is not only ridiculous but extremely unjust.
Even though I do not live in the state of Illinois, I have spent much time there with my grandparents, Marian and Jerry Michaels.
Illinois’ actions have set an example for its neighboring Midwestern states. I hope that my home state of Missouri eventually will be able to follow in your footsteps so that we can truly promote equality for all.
I understand the extreme political climate that we find ourselves in today, but it is comforting to know that there are individuals in office who will put what is right ahead of what is convenient.
Thank you, Rep. Franks, for your actions to further equality.
