Impressed by D-C students
To the Editor:
On Nov. 1, I spent an hour with 180 government students at Dundee-Crown High School, talking about the federal budget and our nation’s near $17 trillion in debt.
Our discussion about how our current debt will impact the next generation – in fact their generation – was wide-ranging and thoughtful. The students were engaged, respectful, and up-to-date on current events. The visit was truly remarkable. I left the school impressed and energized by the students at Dundee-Crown.
This group of juniors and seniors clearly are ready to meet the challenges before them and work to make our country better. For those of us in public service today, it is good to know the next generation has so many thoughtful young people ready to take up the torch and be leaders.
And as the father of four myself, I want to express my thanks to the parents and teachers of those kids. My impression of the students is no doubt a testament to their commitment to their development and education. After talking with some of the teachers at Dundee-Crown, it is clear they are talented educators.
Again, I want to thank the students and teachers at Dundee-Crown High School for allowing me the chance to present and talk about the issues that will impact the next generation.
