TLC offers live trees for holidays

WOODSTOCK – For those who like the idea of a fresh tree but would rather not cut down a live tree only to throw it away in a few weeks, TLC offers Living Holiday Evergreens that can be decorated now and planted in the spring.

Through TLC's partnership with Glacier Oaks Nursery in Harvard, it is able to offer locally grown, living evergreen for the year-end holidays. Pickup will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 23 at Hennen Conservation Area, 4622 Dean St., Woodstock.

Four species are available: blue spruce, green spruce, white pine and white cedar. The latter two species are native to northern Illinois.

Prices vary depending on species and size, but start at $39 for a 3- to 4-foot white cedar and increase to $115 for a 5- to 6-foot white pine.

The nursery will donate 25 percent of proceeds to The Land Conservancy of McHenry County, so by buying a living tree, people can support TLC’s mission of preserving and restoring natural, agricultural and scenic land and water resources in McHenry County.

All trees come with directions for care during the holidays as well as planting directions for spring. The deadline for ordering a living evergreen is Nov. 20.

Trees can be ordered through TLC’s website, www.conservemc.org, or by calling 815-337-9502.
