Chanukah celebration set at McHenry County Jewish Congregation

CRYSTAL LAKE – The McHenry County Jewish Congregation, 8617 Ridgefield Road, will celebrate Chanukah from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 24 with a congregationwide party.

The morning will feature songs, team-building activities and homemade potato latkes, prepared as per tradition by the men of the congregation.

The high school teenagers will conduct a bake sale and will use the proceeds to buy holiday gifts for those assisted by Home of the Sparrow.  

All are welcome to attend.

At 7 p.m. that evening, the congregation will host an Interfaith Community Thanksgiving Service in conjunction with Faithbridge, a multifaith organization designed to encourage learning and understanding of various religions.

The service will include music and readings from various faith traditions. Monetary donations will be sought to support local food pantries.  

The McHenry County Jewish Congregation will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of its building and the 35th anniversary of the congregation the weekend of April 26 to 27.  

The congregation holds Shabbat services at 6:30 p.m. each Friday and at 9:30 a.m. each Saturday. Rabbi Maralee Gordon leads services.
