McHenry businesses to host Christmas events

McHENRY – The McHenry Area Downtown Business Association is hosting several Christmas in the city’s downtown this weekend.

Downtown restaurants will be offering small tastings for a fee from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday as part of the “Taste of Christmas Downtown” event. In addition, many stores will be having specials and holiday events Saturday, according to a news release from the association. There will be a complimentary trolley going through the downtown area starting at 1 p.m.

Santa Claus will arrive at Veteran’s Memorial Park at 4:30 p.m. to visit with children in the gazebo prior to the city’s traditional tree-lighting ceremony, which starts at 5:30 p.m. A professional photographer will be on hand to take family photos.

Participating stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for holiday shopping Sunday. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., all three downtown streets – Main Street, Green Street and Riverside Drive – will have events, such as pony rides, Harms Farm snowball train ride, horse-pulled wagon ride, and costumed characters strolling up and down the streets along with carolers.
