State police plan nighttime patrols

Published: Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 11:59 p.m. CDT

ELGIN – Officers with District 2 of the Illinois State Police will conduct nighttime enforcement patrols in McHenry County during the weekends of Nov. 23 and Nov. 30, Capt. Paul Riggio said in a news release.

The Illinois State Police has zero tolerance for impaired drivers.

Officers working the patrols will watch for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, driving under the influence and not wearing seat belts.

Alcohol and drug impairment is a significant factor in nearly 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.

This project is funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
