CHICAGO – Chicago’s mayor has delivered a message to comedian Jon Stewart: Don’t diss the deep dish.

Stewart feigned a profanity-laced tirade against the Chicago-style pizza this week on “The Daily Show,” calling the massive pie “an above-ground marinara swimming pool for rats.” The East Coaster also opined Wednesday, “I don’t know whether to eat it or throw a coin in it and make a wish.”

The slams came midway through a segment about the fight over North America’s tallest building – a title that an architecture group ruled this week will head to New York’s One World Trade Center from Chicago’s Willis Tower.

It didn’t sit well with Mayor Rahm Emanuel or Chicagoans who are generally as devoted to their thick, tomato-sauced pizza.

So, Emanuel’s office ordered two deep-dish pies to be delivered to show’s New York City studio.

It included one topped by anchovies, a tongue-in-cheek reference to the time Emanuel sent a dead fish to a pollster, and accompanied by a note that read: “Jon, Deep Dish With Dead Fish. Love, Rahm.”

“We wanted to set the record straight ... and send them some real pizza to broaden their minds about the best pizza in the country,” said Sarah Hamilton, Emanuel’s spokeswoman.

Hamilton said the pizzas in question – a two-for-one special for $22 – were made in New York and delivered by cab.
