"(It) definitely feels great (to sign)," Hartman wrote in a text message Monday afternoon. "I'm glad I got it done finally."

Hartman joined the Whalers after producing 76 points (38 goals, 38 assists) with the U.S. National Team Development Program.

Terms of the deal were not announced by the Blackhawks.
