Advent retreat to focus on ‘Four Days of Mary’

Published: Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 10:09 p.m. CST

CRYSTAL LAKE – “Advent Retreat: Four Days of Mary” will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 7 at First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake, 461 Pierson St.

The scripture stories tell of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and have inspired countless people across the centuries. A contemplative retreat will highlight four significant events in Mary’s life – the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity and the Cross – through the witness of many artists and musicians.

The program “Four Days of Mary” combines hundreds of images representing a multitude of cultures and genres with musical selections ranging from 12th-century chants to contemporary R&B. There will be opportunities for comment and discussion after each program segment.

The public is invited as the Rev. Martha Gillette, priest-in-charge of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Apostles in Wauconda, presents this reflection in sight and sound. A donation of $15 a person will be appreciated but is not required.

For information, contact Budd Friend-Jones in the church office at 815-459-6010.
