PEKIN — A central Illinois man who's accused of kidnapping and killing his estranged wife is being held on $5 million bond in the Tazewell County Jail.

The Peoria Journal Star reports 45-year-old Phouvone Sophanavong is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and a single count of aggravated kidnapping.

Authorities arrested Sophanavong after a nine-hour standoff at his Peoria home.

The body of his wife — 28-year-old Laongdao Phangthong — was found in a parked car. She'd been shot twice in the chest.

It wasn't immediately clear if Sophanavong had an attorney. His telephone number isn't listed.
