Both sides rest in Huntley murder trial

WOODSTOCK – Attorneys from both sides rested Thursday in the first-degree murder trial of a Huntley man accused of beating his live-in girlfriend.

Robert Signorile, 44, is on trial this week for the 2012 death of 52-year-old Michelle Mathieu.

Authorities were called to the couple’s Huntley home March 18, 2012. They found Mathieu unconscious and face down in vomit.

Signorile's defense attorneys have said that he believed she was drunk and passed out.

Mathieu later died at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. The autopsy revealed she died from a closed head injury caused by blunt force trauma.

Jurors were released for the day, and closing arguments are set for Friday morning.
