LAKEMOOR – Two families were displaced from a Lakemoor duplex Thursday night following a second floor fire, according to McHenry Township Fire Protection District officials.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 300 block of North Maplewood Drive around 7:20 p.m. Thursday for a report of a structure fire, according to a news release.

Crews arrived to find light smoke coming from the rear eves of a two-story duplex in that area.

The fire was contained to the second floor unit and was under control in about 24 minutes, the news release states. Both living units were uninhabitable due to fire, smoke and water damage.

No one was injured during the blaze.

Aid was requested for the two displaced families who lived in the duplex through the American Red Cross.

Crews from Nunda Rural, Fox Lake, Wonder Lake and Spring Grove assisted with the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
