First team


Niko Mihalopoulos

Huntley, sr.

Mihalopoulos, the Northwest Herald Player of the Year, tied a single-season school record with 27 goals while also recording 10 assists. Even with defenses keying on him every game, Mihalopoulos was dangerous regardless if he had the ball and routinely beat defenses with his speed.

Miguel Cortez,

Marengo, sr.

Cortez, a four-year varsity starter, capped his career with the Indians on an impressive note. He amassed 14 goals, tied for fifth most by any area player, with 14 assists which were the second most.

Julio Arias

Woodstock, so.

Arias, a sophomore, scored 16 goals for the Blue Streaks including four game winners. He also added four assists and was a consistent scoring threat with his speed and ability to find the back of the net.


Kevin Wilde

Cary-Grove, sr.

A three-year starter for the Trojans, Wilde was a prolific scorer this season finishing with 20 goals, second most by any player. Wilde also tallied 10 assists and ended his career at C-G with 64 goals and 29 assists.

Aaron Jones

Woodstock North, sr.

Dangerous whenever he had open space in the midfield, Jones led the Thunder with 14 goals and also recorded three assists. The Woodstock North captain was difficult to contain when he had the ball and his assertiveness in the offensive end resulted in the Thunder putting together their best season in division play.

Eduardo Gonzalez

Huntley, sr.

Gonzalez did it all for the Red Raiders. The senior midfielder scored 15 goals and recorded 15 assists as one of the best technical players in the area. Gonzalez’s 15 assists set a new school record.

Ben Stone

Dundee-Crown, sr.

Stone, a senior, led the Chargers to their first Fox Valley Conference title since 2005 and only the second in the program’s history. Playing midfielder or forward for D-C, Stone finished with 11 goals and eight assists.


Evan Hying

McHenry, sr.

A large part of McHenry’s postseason run to the sectional final, Hying scored seven goals and tallied eight assists while playing a mix of midfielder and defender during the season. The senior played every minute this season and delivered on penalty kicks during the postseason.

Carlos Ramos

Dundee-Crown, sr.

Part of a Chargers defense that recorded 13 shutouts this season, Ramos’ leadership and defensive acumen made D-C’s unit one of the toughest. Ramos, a senior, also contributed three goals and three assists.

Jakub Rys

Huntley, sr.

Rys was a force in the air on 50-50 balls and a key factor is starting Huntley’s attacks. With Rys leading the defense, the Red Raiders recorded 15 shutouts this season, a new school record.

Beau Meintz

Marian Central, jr.

Meintz was the rock of a Hurricanes defense that helped Marian win a regional title. Meintz, who also scored a goal this season, was part of a unit that combined for a 1.70 goals against average.


Frankie Valle

McHenry, sr.

Valle recorded eight shutouts this season, including two in the playoffs, and posted a 0.95 goals against average. The senior goalkeeper was a big part of McHenry’s postseason success by limiting opponents to two total goals in four playoff games with two wins in penalty kicks.
