Morning Crystal Lake truck fire ignited garage

CRYSTAL LAKE - Firefighters responded to a truck fire this morning that also ignited the garage of a home.

Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department firefighters responded at 8:19 a.m. to a report of a car fire the driveway of the residence at 541 Eletson Drive.

A neighbor from across the street called 911 to alert firfighters. The neighbor said the car was on fire and close to the garage and said they believed no one was in the car, fire officials said.

Prior to the firefighters' arival, another neighbor reported that the garage was on fire via 911. SEECOM’s (Southeast Emergency Communication) 911 dispatcher upgraded the alarm for more resources.

The first responding Crystal Lake units reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the truck in the driveway and the front of the garage.

Firefighters said they were able to contain the blaze to the front of the garage and put it out after 15 minutes.

Crystal Lake was assisted through automatic aid with fire resources from Algonquin Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District.

There were no injuries to any civilians or firefighters. Initial damage estimates are $15,000 for the truck and the structure, firefighter said.
