Sensible approach

To the Editor:

I recently heard Congressman Peter Roskam speak on a variety of topics, including immigration reform.

His approach was to address immigration problems with small, targeted pieces of legislation rather than a large, one-size-fits-all law that those in Congress don’t read or fully understand.

Roskam advocated starting with border security, then tackling issues regarding undocumented immigrants already here. Breaking problems into smaller and understandable pieces and tailoring laws to address each piece makes sense, whether the issue is immigration or problems with affordable health care.

Roskam’s views on how to tackle big national problems appeal to me because it is practical and will lead to solutions rather than more talk. I hope others in Congress follow Roskam’s approach.
