Towns offer Christmas light recycling

Several municipalities are offering residents a chance to recycle their unused Christmas lights.

Residents can bring light strands, rope lights, LED lights and extension cords to a dozen drop-off points through the holiday season. Items that will not be accepted include garlands, wreaths and other non-recyclable materials.

Drop-off points include Algonquin Village Hall, Cary Village Hall, Crystal Lake City Hall, Lakewood Village Hall, Marengo City Hall, McHenry City Hall, Port Barrington Village Hall, Prairie Grove Village Hall. Spring Grove Village Hall, Wonder Lake Village Hall, Woodstock Public Works, and the Wonder Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Contact your municipality directly for recycling availability if it is not hosting a drop-off. For more information, visit www.mcdh.info or contact health department Solid Waste Manager Kristy Hecke at 815-334-4585.
